To all who knew Deborah Martinez, she was a woman with amazing strength and perseverance. She committed her life to teaching, and she gave 110% to her job and her family. The world will deeply miss the contributions of Debbie Martinez. In her honor and spirit, Debbie's loved ones have started a scholarship fund awarded to Spanish language students at Oakmont High School to continue her legacy of helping others succeed. The Zoo Human Project held two shows in Roseville to help raise money for the Deborah Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from CD sales at these shows were donated to the fund.
We raised a total of $250 for the scholarship in two shows. Thanks to everyone for your generous donations. If you were unable to attend and would still like to donate, checks can be made out to:

Since the beginning of July, the Zoo Human Tour has been sweeping the western US states in promotion of the album, INNOMINATA. Updates to DerekMartinez.com have been hindered by the fact that all of the previous programs used for website maintenance are located on our home computer which is being kept in storage. But with a little help, we’re back up and running. Sorta.
Throughout the duration of the tour, all updates will go through the tour MySpace (www.myspace.com/thezoohumanproject / www.myspace.com/derekmartinez) presence. That’s not to say that I’m giving up here, however. If time allows, I’d really like to keep the surprises coming!
So stay glued.

Previous
posts hinted at a certain surprise in store for our fans.
As
part of our creative endeavors, Jen and I have created our own record
label in conjuction with the announcement of our first ever National
Tour. The name, Zoo Human Records, is open to individual
interpretation but conjures a hint of humor coupled with the observation
of humankind. The tour, made possible by the loving support and
inspiration of our family and friends, starts July 1st for the promotion
of our jointly recorded, still-untitled disc.
Stay
abreast of all the latest thoughts from the road at my blog,
along with a perpetually growing list of shows.

Tons
Plenty of Some news to report.
Your
favorite independent has been featured as The
Stomping Ground Artist of the Month!
NEW
PHOTOS added in the MEDIA section. Well...new
as in, previously-unseen photos dated December 2001. Still, San
Diego Scapes manages to snap some compelling shots of this rather
uninteresting, not very photogenic artist. Also, the Tree Musketeers
PSA has been removed. Hope you were able to enjoy the limited "release".

It's
hard to believe that my last post was almost 2 1/2 months ago. This
is largely due to the fact that there has been little to report.
However, I have recently added some important links to the site,
most importantly some links related to my mother's serious ailments.
Please take some time to visit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation
of America (www.ccfa.org)
and the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation (www.nlmsf.org).
As a means of raising money for Crohn's and LMS research, I've been
thinking about creating a single available for download with proceeds
going to the aforementioned organizations. I'll be researching ways
to do this but if you already know how it may be possible, please
send me a message.

Thanks
to all who came for Thursday's Acoustic Night. We had a great time
and appreciate your presence and - in a few cases - your participation.
Can't wait for the next one!!
Also,
rumors are abound that the Acoustic Night might come to CD in either
an complete, multi-disc set or a single, "greatest hits"
CD. Click here to join the Mailing
List and get latest info on this and other projects.
